Fox started the new year with the new show, The Following. As I enjoy watching thrillers I’ve had to check it out. Especially that a lot of people on the Web recommended it. Yeah, I know, it means nothing. Anyway, I’ve got through first episode and it wasn’t bad. Nothing new, nothing brilliant, but decent. It had this typical for American television patronizing style. Characters are constantly explaining each detail of the story, so even half-brain could catch up.
After watching 2012 in Gamingon YouTube I’ve wanted to try Deadlight. I usually don’t buy games just like that. I’m first reading some reviews online, then trying to see gameplay on YouTube and if price is right (I’ve never paid “normal” price for the game in my life) I can bought it. This time it was love at the first sight. I’ve just checked the score on GryOnline(Polish games site) and as it was just 5,99€ on Steam, I’ve bought it immediately.
Remember Home Improvement? Quite nice family show with Tim Allen. Nothing special, but I’ve enjoyed watching it. It was funny, sometimes educational. All family members were chosen well, so you’ve felt like it’s real thing.
Now Tim is back with Last Man Standingwhich is actually the same thing. Few differences, he’s now working in some outdoor store rather than being host of his own TV show, and his children are girls instead of boys (but he still has three kids).
When I’ve started reading The Bookstore Strikes Backin the newest AtlanticI was thinking, well this is another nerdy lady who has too much of free time and is trying to make a fuss around her. How wrong I was. Or actually how well Ann Patchettis able to tell this story. As I’m always saying, I would read manual to screw driver with flush on my face if it was written by Stephen King.
The last few years were really bad for horror movies. There was almost nothing good. As I love the genre I’m always trying to catch every piece of good film I’m able to find. So I’ve watched Sinisterrecently and must say it was quite alright. I believe my judgement is blurred by lack of any alternative. The latest horror I’ve seen was the one with Mr. Potterand I really want to forget about this waste of time.
Microsoft is retiring Messengerwhich would be replaced by Skype. I have nothing against, one client less to stay in touch with everybody. But I wonder if then Lync would be able to connect with Skype users. Right now Lync has ability to connect with Messenger users which are outside of our organization. Sometimes it doesn’t work as I’ve described here, but in general it’s nice functionality. If Lync would be able to communicate with Skype then I would definitely be happy.
I’m happy user of Windows 8, really. It’s nice OS, definitely worth 30 Euro I’ve paid for it. It has this nice feature that you can put one Windows App (yeah, it must be app of new type) on 1/4 of the screen and second one (any app this time) on the rest. So you can surf the web and chat without switching between windows. Works nice, feels nice, love it.
For a long time Matthew McConaugheywas for me symbol of wimp, the actor who can play action hero only for women audience, love boy. I’ve thought the same about Ben Affleckand I’ve changed my mind, but it’s subject for another post. Now I’ve changed my mind about Mr. McConaughey. It started with The Lincoln Lawyerwhich was good movie, but still not it. But after seeing “Killer Joe” I can honestly say that he’s the man.
I was setting up OpenVPNon my VPS today. I was following this tutorialand everything went smoothly until I’ve installed client on my Windows 7 desktop. I got connected, but my Internet traffic wasn’t forwarded through VPN and this was my main goal. So I’ve checked server config and applied few ideas found via Google, no luck. Modified iptables, still no forwarding. Then I’ve checked logs in my client, now I know that I should’ve started there.
I was really looking forward to see The Cabin in the Woods, but when I’ve finally did I was disappointed. The scenario is such a piece of crap that I can’t imagine how somebody could approve production. We have ancient evil god who needs to receive human blood sacrifices from five people, so group (I wonder who was financing them as they seemed to have endless funds) devoted to keep evil out of the world has made some kind of computer-altered environment (rip off from Hunger Games) and are luring innocent people there.
